Hitting the Road!

My friend Susan and I have been planning a trip "someday" for years.  Well, someday is here and tomorrow we take off to spend a few days celebrating our 50th birthdays.  Her birthday was just this past Saturday and I'm a couple of months ahead of her!  I hope to post some pictures but may have to wait until we return.  Just had to share this picture of us on my 29th birthday.  We were both wearing braces LOL and had tons of energy.  Now 21 years later, the braces are off and the energy level is down but we're finally taking that trip. Later...

Round The Block Swap - Round 2

The second set of blocks from Yahoo group 'inthishouseandgarden' are complete! The originator of this set is Elinor Jensen. I love the shape of her blocks which are a bit thicker at the base. Check out Elinor's artwork:

I added my artwork to a side of each of Elinor's blocks.  The background is tan and black checkered tissue paper.  The butterflies were punched from glossy junk mail and put through a CB folder.  They were accented with metallic rubons.  The masked girl was in my stash of images and the words were from magazines.  Everything was outlined with a white gel pen and a touch of glitter was added.  Three more rounds to much fun!

Sunday Postcard Art - Stripey Legs

The challenge at Sunday Postcard Art this week is "Stripey Legs".  I used acrylic paints for the background.  Words, images and card edges were outlined with charcoal pencil and smudged.  The circles are punched paper and the dancer's legs were colored using a Pitt pen and white Sakura pen.  Words were computer-generated.  To see more "stripey legs", check out this Sunday Postcard link.  Fun theme!

Round The Block - Round 1

These are the first blocks I received from Yahoo group inthishouseandgarden's round robin swap.  The swap, rightfully named 'round the block', has turned out to be so much more fun than I imagined.  Each participant sent out wooden blocks no larger than 4" in height or width and the other members choose a side to do art on.  The first set of blocks I received were from Sarah Fishburn and I think they were 2" cubes...a great size to work with.  Check out Sarah's site at

Following Sarah's lead, I decided to stick with women as my focus and this is what I came up with.  The second set of blocks arrived this week and I'll be sharing those soon.  Later...

Sunday Postcard Art - School

This week's theme is school.  For my postcard, I painted the background with black gesso.  The background images (pencil and numbers by Oxford Impressions) were stamped using white gesso.  Vintage inks were sponged over the white gesso to add a tint of color.  Edges were also gessoed and tinted with ink.  The photo is from Rock Candy Studios and the words are computer generated.  Fun theme!  The colors didn't translate quite right after being scanned but that sometimes happens. (EDIT: I took the piece down and reworked it by adding yellow acrylic around the edges.  This seemed to improve it a bit!)  To see other school themed postcards, check out Sunday Postcard Art.

Round the Block Swap

There's a cool swap happening on the Yahoo group "inthishouseandgarden" called round the block.  It's a wooden block round robin with each member of the swap group completing one side of the block.  I decided to go with a Christmas theme for the blocks that I'll add to the round robin.  The images are from Luna Girl.
